I hate weighing in this sort of stuff, but heres my perspective anyhow
Do we object because
a/ they are endangered
b/ it is immoral (we love them!)
c/ its cruel
It appears they are not endangered, as with Minke whales which the japs mainly hunt also
Immoral? I don't like it, I don't do it however I do kill rabbits, foxes and on occasion pigs and goats and of course fish. Cows are revered by Hindus, all life by Buddhists but I haven't seen any campaigns by them to stop us eating bovine products. I don't eat much of the feral stuff I kill but many of the rabbits go to a raptor hospital.
Cruel? Could well be but we don't know without the word of those who want us to believe it is.
I don't think the Faroe Islanders have any particular religious belief that requires that sort of slaughter as do some middle eastern practices which require the animal to bleed to death.
So I don't see why they would deliberately torture these animals?
We do need to realize that in nature, there are no peaceful deaths. Animals don't die of old age, they get slower until torn apart by something bigger stronger or hungrier.
Or in the case of an apex predator probably disease and parasites.
Im not advocating either way, merely adding a bit of perspective which can be lost in the emotion of seeing apparently horrific cruelty inflicted.

Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Well put mate,
We can have our opinions but this world is full of others telling others how to live their short lives.
