Do Rays Take Lures?

Weirdest thing happened to me today whilst cast hardbodies around the Canning flats. Something grabbed and pulled my lure taking almost a full spool of me before i got it to slow down and slowly turn around on 4lb fireline then spitting my lure back. There was no headshakes and it had me stationary for a while too.
Have you heard of rays taking lures??? I'm sure this must of been a small ray.

I somehow got a squid jig tangled around one before,
$15 bucks down the drain and the bugger swam up and down the beach showing off his new bling.

I had a giant ray take a tiny yellow gulp off the bottom of Palm Beach jetty. I had just put the rod down to open a beer and it floated right over the lure then set off back out into the sound. Spooled me and didnt even know it was hooked.
