Haven't seen too many out there, haven't seen anything worrisome while I'm out there either.

u got just as much chance of bumping into something unwanted at rotto as you do at cottesloe beach mate....
the chances of it happening are very small....
good luck

Mate if you scared of sharks
Mate if you scared of sharks you should think of taking up bolws instead .They are there but you don't see them .There is all ways going to be that chance you may be the unlucky one to come face to face with a big one but it is a great past time.To tell you the truth I don,t think of sharks MUCH.You have to many other things going on inside your head .Happy diving

I agree
with the lawn bowls statement. They're everywhere but won't worry you. If the big boy comes along.... what can i say.
You drive a car on the road don't you.
More risk right there. Enjoy the water and forget about the men in grey suits
Insert humerous comment here....

Look at it this
Look at it this way?
Non-boaties get a bit weird about being out of sight of land, but that doesn't worry you out at the FADs.
Non-divers fret over sharks, but if you dive, you're probably too busy doing something else, and enjoying yourself, to worry about sharks.

Go for it
Over 600 dives and never seen a white pointer, i wouldnt worry about any other shark. Don't worry about it and go for it! the diving is awesome over at rotto and vis is generally much better than you'll get diving off the mainland.
I remember being told sharks will generally stay away from scuba divers unless there are dead fish involved, as they are put off and confused by the noises scuba makes underwater. bullsh*t or not the only instances i can remember of SCUBA divers being harrassed by sharks is wen they had a spear gun in their hand and had shot fish

plenty of crays out that way thats for sure... just dont touch the pots :D
remember rotto does have some ripping currents too so always pays to test the waters first.

Strickland & Cathedral's
I have also dived Rotto for years and there are some great sites !
However I keep well away from Strickland & Cathedral rocks ,as there have been numerous big sharks in these two locations .
Probably due to the increase in seals at West End.
I also purchased a shark shield .....it might work or it might not !!!
But it does give me piece of mind .

Very compact, probably about $600? Just got to watch the trailing antenna, gives you a little zap ;)
1. How does the Shark Shield effectively deter sharks?
The Shark Shield produces a unique conductive field that surrounds the wearer. Sharks are sensitive to this field and when they approach too close to the wearer, the field causes muscular spasms in the shark, that result in the shark feeling discomfort.
It is believed the field is detected by the shark through its sensory receptors, known as the Ampullae of Lorenzini, found on the snouts of all predator sharks. Once detected by the shark''s sensors, the field causes extreme discomfort and muscle spasms, resulting in the animal fleeing the area.
Its only really found in sharks and rays, so shouldn't worry the fish.

Just Rattles the fillings
Hey Till
yes the tail can be a bit of a problem .....its not a big "ZAP" though , more just a reminder that its turned on .
The other half takes great delight in putting hers in my way all the time , she thinks is funny
.
Doesn't work on rays ,the bigs still chase me around trying to get my crays and I know for a fact that it doesn't work on Wobbie's either ....it seems they dont have the receptors either.
I wish I had know that ! Layed down on a big"un hidden in the weed one day ,dont know who got the biggest shock when he woke up ....
