Defrosting crayfish
Submitted by CCC on Sun, 2015-12-13 16:35
Have a few crays in the freezer for Christmas. What is the best way to defrost them to ensure the best quality? Also how long does it normally take to defrost them?
Thanks

Mate I take them out about
Mate I take them out about 24 hours before. Defrost them in the fridge. They might be a bit frozen still when you start to clean them, but a few mins under the tap will finish them off.

In the fridge
Defrosting them in the fridge is the best way like Westy74 says
that is the only way in my opinion !!
My fishing spots are so secret........... even the fish don't know where they are !!

Quicker Method
If you want to defrost more quickly - boil water and then take off heat - place frozen crays in water and they defrost quickly and to me doesn't taste differently to slower methods especially if adding some sort of flavouring.

To be honest
I take them out of the freezer in the morning, give them a rise under the tap to get the frost off them. Give them a few hours out in the sink then into the fridge for dinner that evening.
I've found going straight from the freezer to fridge, they're pretty much still frozen and you need speed the process up, which is what can cause an average meal in the end, when it comes to eating/preparing them at the last minute.
Just my opinion.

if you can try
sit them head down in the fridge, this helps keep meat cleaner with any shit going to head and not tail.
