Deep drop rods

I have recently replaced my old 50/200khz transducer with a new 1kw model more forced by a launching rope mishap and a slightly less than attentive/experienced decky who is now pulling faces at me and threatening not to cook my dinner after reading this back before I post.

Anyway, I'm now thinking I wouldn't mind looking for fish a bit further afield. My question is to the people who are doing the deep drop thing regularly, what rods are you using with your electric reels as I've got not much knowledge on the whole thing.

+1 for Daiwa Dendoh

for the super deep, and a T-Curve 400 OH for up to 32 Oz (can really take more if you wish). I'd say, as a tip, the shorter the better!

Brother inlaw in albany has

Brother inlaw in albany has the shimano triton , not the cheapy but a game model . I was using a random broomstick and it was more effort bringing up the lead or green eyes than his with good size fish on - double headers.

I am looking to get one matched with a tiagra 30w running pe6 boat braid.

made fishing the very deep easy!

*edit - might i add that im very new to fishing this depth but oh lord its shit hot!!*

Tcurve 37kg bent butt, it has

Tcurve 37kg bent butt, it has the right amount of flex and strength. The flex in the rod is needed to avoid tearing hooks, some rods sold for this specific job are way too stiff.

Super Deep rod

You want to use a parabolic jig rod (we use the Jigging Master brand). It has plenty of grunt and puts all the pressure on the fish not your back. Suits nicely with a Daiwa Electric reel or other brands and very lightweight to hold.

We dont recommend the traditional electric bent butt rods as many are too long and/or stiff. Fine for putting it into the rod holder but for fighting fish ie standup the parabolic jig rod is the go.

My bent butt rod is parabolic, so no issues there. You get a longer stroke with the bent butts, so if you're bait fishing they are great. Certainly the straight butts are better jigging.

Rod for the Super-Deep!

Thu, 2013-01-03 20:54

Steve, I've used several different types of rods including bent butt (didnt like it)........I prefer my parabolic jigging rod and thats for baits & jigs!!!

I'm using the JM Evolution Titanium 400, I have used it for many years out there now on the Super Deep fish and very happy with it!!!
