i missed the bus the other day an figured id buy a WA based fishing mag, so i bought western angler and was pretty disapointed with the content. which mags do you guys like to buy that give you great local knowledge and reasonble tips and methods utilised to catch good fish here.
cheers Old Salt

I just recently Bought fish
I just recently Bought fish life.. It is bloody brilliant but not a WA based mag. Fishing Wild is like a quarterly mag and that thing is jam packed with articles and not 80% advertising.

to be honest mate i buy
to be honest mate i buy western angler, fishing wa and... i dunno what its called but another wa based fishing mag, as much as they have up to date articles about what the writers are catching with some info on how, where, tackle, times ect.... i find them lacking in content, miss the wangler of old. (may just be me looking for something new)
*edit*
the demersal soft plastic article in the last wangler was a good read, looking forward to part 2.
Here we go again.

Hate to say it , but WA mags
Hate to say it , but WA mags aren't all that good.
sport fishing Australia is way better.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Bluewater
Bluewater magazine is prob the best and only mag I tend to subscribe to these days. Always got new techniques and gear in there.
Also spear fishing down under has some awesome photos, but it only tells trip stories. Still well worth the $12 tho.

Blue Water is bought
Blue Water is bought everytime a new issue is released. I love it. By far the best magazines. Wanglers are ok, by them occasionaly if they have a article or two i want to read. FWA/the WA one is okay as well.. Dont really rate the WA mags to be honest.
a hard days fishing still beats work

i personally wont buy a mag
i personally wont buy a mag as most are full of adds.
what i would like to see is more of the fishing stuff explaining how and what rig to use on this certain fish along with diff types of rigs and knots. i know most of this is available on the net these days but you dont always have access to a computer

Faulkner Family Comment...?
It is with interest I note that the Faulkner Family comment that they wont buy a mag because it is full of ads. Did anyone notice the ad directly under that entry ? I would have thought that any Fisherman worth his salt (no offence old Salt) would be interested in new products being advertised by the likes of Daiwa and Shimano. In fact, if you're not interested in ads about waterproof camera's, outboard motors, polarised sunglasses, specials at West Australian tackle shops and specials on local charters, then maybe you are not interested enough in Fishing ? Like the THYME out Cafe, all businesses need an opportunity to promote their products - be it home style cooking or fishing gear. Could really go a burger right now......

i dont mind the adds to much
i dont mind the adds to much but my expectations are of fishing mag is the person writing the story znd catching the fish be more informative about the tackle they are using, the rig, the bait and the reasons behind it so as to help the reader as opposed to the story just being a brag story with very little substance. i dont expect gps marks but info about the ground they are fishing and what to look for is of more value than the waffle in their articles.
To give you an example, the main reason i bought the mag was because of the headline about catching snapper and dhu fish on plastics in deep water. now i have caught big snapper in 5-6m of water and hoped id get some good info after reading the article? But all i got out of it was you shoukd uses a good rod, reel and braid and the plastic must be on straight! No shit sherlock! So i must by the next edition for more info, as the then Carlton president John Elliot once said " pigs arse :-)"

I got a western angler
I got a western angler subscription for a christmas present. I dont mind the 'usual' ads, as ppl have already said u can see new peaces of shiny tackle etc and dream a little. what i do hate is the pages towards the back that have mini articles on "X lure company has brought out a new range of colours for this (existing) lure, which is really awesome and sure to catch heaps more fish", and then a dozen more things like sunnies or lip-grips etc.
And yer, theres not alot of technical stuff in there about rigs etc, its alot of "I went here and caught some fish, the scenery was beautiful and i felt really special to be able to fish this great country of ours..."
But that said there is some good articles occasionaly on certain techniques etc (though i agree with old salt on the plastics article) and i just enjoy it as a bit of a light read. featuring WA places that ive fished before or finding ones i havnt is also pretty interesting, reading about impoundment lakes over east is cool but doesnt help me much.
hey what happened to fishwrecked reeltime, is that still happening? stopped receiving the emails ages ago!
