Fished there both sat and sunday morning. Saturday morning plenty of herring. Today nothing, one bloke that was there both days said that after i left on the saturday there were "salmon everywhere" and a skippy caught.
And welcome to the site. Just search the dawesville cut or just cut for some information, or feel free to post a question. All here to help.
The southern side near the Ocean is good for herring, tailor at dawn and dusk, and the odd salmon in time.
On the north side the area just before the restuarant, tackle shop is a herring hot spot, and you will see people fishing there almost all the time. Herring like burley, the more the merry they get, and I recon they are there because the people go there, burley up and attract them.
Directly opposite on the other side of the cut is our prefered Tailor spot, also at dawn and Dusk. Our prefered time is after work, so about 6pm. They almost always go on the bite when the sun is low and best time in summer seems to be about 7.15pm From now until Autumn with a gang hook, mulie or better a smiling jack lure (cheap) or metal slice you will get them. Add a glow tube to the end of the line just above the Mulie, lure if it gets dark, but usually if they go off the bite, they are gone. Just watch the other people. Once they pack up, its probably time to go and eat.
Hope this helps a little. The beaches south of the cut is also great for herring, whiting, tailor etc, but for the good ones like Tims and whitehills you will need a 4x4 or a good set of legs to walk in.
