Cray pot pulling question

Hey all,
Just wondering what the go is with pulling cray pots. Me and my dad share our pots, he dropped them the other day but can't go get them.
If I take his license with me will I be able to go get them?

I think you will find you will need your dad onboard to pull your dads pots , I have been diving to recover pots for fishwrecked members and have been wondering if fisherys turn up while I recover a pot how I would be from a legal point of view

Yeah I will only be pulling two pots as thats all that is out there but just wasnt sure. Surely fisheries would understand...

No. They wont. Rule is the licence allows you to pull the pots. Basically, you have a licence for two pots. Those pots have to have ID numbers on them that correspond to your licence. No one else is allowed to pull the pots without you being on the boat. If they're you dads pots, your dad needs to be on the biat when they're pulled. End of story. Big fines if you get caught doing otherwise.

No problems
Ive never had any problems with them. Some skippers aint that confident, but they havet ever tried to board in rough weather, and certainly never "smashed" into my boat.

you are lucky
I had a fisheries boat try and come along side me on the five fathom and and the skipper got it all wrong and smacked into my boat the result wash a nice old dent in the bow (and we were on the pick at the time )

3 people on board, 3 licenses.
Grandad did not pull his own pots as too old.
Son did not pull pots as too young.
The Dad pulled all 6 pots and fisheries were watching from high powered binoculas and raced
in form 2 directions in 2 boats and even had a diver ready to jump into the water in case they threw kakkas over board.
6800 dollar fine and even the magistarte could not work out the problem and apologiesed when he made the mandatory fine.

In regards to the grandfather, I think its a bit steep because they could of argued he was assisting in the pulling of the pots (driving the boat / keeping look out etc etc....) with the young bloke its a bit different. I asked this question of fisheries before regarding bag limits, "what constitutes an 'angler'". Response I got was, "someone actively participating." They gave the example of abalone licences... a licenced three yr old child sitting in the car in the car park doesnt constitute being actively involved....
In your mate's situation I reckon a good lawyer could have argued the grandfather's situation, and potentially the grandson's too. Difficulty in the latter is to make an argument that due to his age he could have contributed the to actual catching of the crayfish.
Anyway, a bit stiff I reckon.

Yep that sounds totally wrong. The way I see it 3 on board with licences, 6 pots , 2 each ID'd accordingly. My deckie pulls all the pots as I drive the boat and young fella helps clean the ropes when they come up. Fisheries could not ping you for that. I smell something fishy with that one

I had my little girl on the boat w me n she had her licence whn she was 3 yrs old. I pulled mine then went n pulled hers fisheries checked us back in the river and there was no problem with it! Maybe just depends if they r on their rags or not!@

Before I got my 5 year old his license I phoned them to check it would be legit. They said as long as he is on the boat it is ok. So i get him to help bait the pots and he likes chucking the floats over.

usually the skipper holds the licence but the deckie pulls the pots.

commercial deckies still need a commercial fishing licence which allows them to operate under acommercial operation. Skipper holds a copy of the crews licences with all his docs in case fisheries or DPI board and check paperwork

It only $40 to buy a license,
It only $40 to buy a license, $20 for two new floats. Just change the pots over to your ID and you can go whenever you want and dad can come along when ever he wants. Dont risk it!

Wife comes with me she drives boat, I use the winch to pull the pots, when fisheries boarded us of Mandurah they where quite happy with that arrangement
