Coral Bay

HI all
We had some minute change of plans and instead of making it into Ningaloo Station we will be spending our time in Coral Bay.
My uncle made it into Ningaloo and said it was a 4 and a half hour trip in and we decided that with 3 kids under 2 Years old we wouldnt risk it in case something happened.
Just wondering if some one could give me some pointers on Coral Bay. I have been looking at my navionics app but doesnt show much feature around here.
I would try the search function but thats not easy to use on your phone.
Cheers in advance.

Hi Jayce,
Depends what the weather is like, head out north or south passage, if you want some Mac's just go to the back of the outer reef.
For your Reds, Rankins etc start looking for ground around 40 -80m, for your goldban 100m+
More drum lines, kill the bloody sharks!

yep as walfootrot says above. but would have said good reds from 60ish + m
Coral bay is not easy to find spots. you need a reasonably good sounder. it's pretty flat country out there. you cant really go around looking for bommies etc. you have to look for fish or if your sounder is not tuned or quite adequate in deepish water try to just distinguish between the sand and the coral on the bottom. (again you wont see drop-offs etc. just different bottom types.)
if you find yourself catching the lizard fish ....you are obv. on the sand (lizard fish = Red Emp candy)

Nothing to serious just took
Nothing to serious just took a while to find. There was a joiner in the main power line to the switchboard that got a bit of green death in it. So we replaced that and all good now.

At least you picked the weather. Allmost the best week all year, but a bit comming on the weekend. Hope you have been getting onto some. We have been pushing fairly deep last few days to find the fish but a few of the regulars up here have still had good luck right in shallow also. So they are biteing just got to find them. As most said there are very little in the way of structure on the bottom up here, but if your sounder is setup well, look along arears where there are steeper changes in depth and you should have some luck.

head out through due west to around the 70 to 80 meter mark should take you roughly 20 km's offshore. Thats where we found our reds. Also if your wanting to get stuck into the gold band we headed out to the 120 meter mark along the shelf and couldnt get away from them! literally every drop and there was nothing showing on the sounder.
Good things come to those who bait
