Contender or Pretender? Omoto Severo 5000

Some of you guys would have heard of Alan Hawk... Hmm Alan Tani too, what is it with reel guys all being called Alan?
Here it is anyway; Omoto Severo 5000: The Review.
Not all of us need, or can afford Saltigas or Stellas, and this is a fairly critical, but not necessarily negative, review of one of the cheaper alternatives. Certainly sounds like a much better alternative than some of those other awful overpriced alternatives available from a certain Australian manufacturer^H^H^H^Hrelabeler.
I certainly like the special ops colour scheme although if it was that parkerised finish that Accurate were using, now that really would be something!

Still looks like a pretender, the reel in structure terms is definately a contender, but the finish on each individual item is what makes a reel.
For the sub 500-600$ bracket it is a brilliant addition but i feel the lack of marketing and finish is what will see this reels failure. All this technology was out 10 years ago, and if this reel was brought out 10 years ago (i'm not sure how old omoto is) probably would have changed the face of budget spinners. Alan does great balanced reviews and should definately do more reels.
Would be interesting to feel one in the flesh

How could the bail arm have
How could the bail arm have been overlooked? Maybe they had realised too late into the production but IMO a very costly mistake especially if it's going to be around the 600-700.
Interested to see how this reel would go, I reckon it's going to be a contender dependent on price. Good review, enjoyed the read

omoto
Definatly a contender so far. 3months so far so good, 22kg sambo about the most its done but made pretty light work of it.
They wont replace my jap reels but great as a second (deckies missus etc)
Finish- Faultless.
bail arm- no issue (must have fixed it).
Weight- HEAVY!!
I have one of the other budget aussie spinners as well! wish I had listend to Honsu and Mat. (bent handle, drag slips and jerks and paints all gone). Tufftimes!
