Cockburn Sound Squidding and Fishing

Heh guys,
Just bought a boat ( 5.3m ) and I am a newbie to boating.
I am hoping to head out soon for the first time ( when the weather settles ) and as a newbie going to stick to Cockburn Sound for now.
I would be grateful for any advice on the conditions I should be looking for when going out in the sound?
Are there any hazards / areas that I should avoid in the sound from a safety point of view?
I would also be grateful on advice on how and where to catch squid and if lucky snapper/KG whiting
Cheers.

squid like weed and sandy
squid like weed and sandy areas so around parmelia bank i have had some luck
try the squid jigs- you can get cheap ones or up to $25 but most of them work, or a whiting baited up on a squid hook (forgot the name sorry)
KG whiting also like the sand and weed, i like running a small patternosta rig with a size 10 long shank hook, or a running ball sinker to the long shank.
conditions stick to under 15 knots, 1m waves and swell, but if you go between the mainland and the islands you should be pretty right, because it is usually protected with most winds.
If you drift close to the mussel farm on the northern tip of garden island there are a few squid there
one link from today i think http://fishwrecked.com/forum/squid-cockburn-sound-0
good luck :)
