The biggest problem is the mess. Fisherman are hopeless with taking home there rubbish and leave it to blow and smell the place up. So in WA's biggest tourist draw card i can't see any hope.

Really?

If Hillarys is WA`s biggest draw card we`re in trouble. I agree theres a few rotten apples that spoil it for the rest of the bunch as far as cleaning up after themselves. That doesnt mean the majority shouldnt have access to proper facilities in an established launch site.

Yep WA's number one tourist attraction..

As for cleaning up after themselves. You'll find Mindarie Harbour is about to ban fishing inside the harbour as they are sick of all the rubbish and the council is getting up them to sort it out..Always the way. the bad spoil it for everyone else.

Agree in part

Agree that the fisho's inside the marina are pig's. But i must say that most of the rubish in the rocks and water, is from the last few years of constuction .

Building houses half way up the marina wall is going to create a lot of mess, and from what i have seen its not managed very well.

As for the topic of cleaning stations, i think they would cause more problems than there worth.

Just my 2 cents worth guy's. Grant

As far as the cleaning table

Tue, 2011-07-26 16:36

As far as the cleaning table go Do it at home. the ammount of shit i have seen done to them tables late night by low lifes is insane. not to mention all the rubbish and shit that floats all around them. i refuse to use em. Also who would want to clean there fish on a stinkin hot cleaning table in 40 degrees heat all the bacteria , old blood and guts n shit on them not likely. Id rather do mine at home in what i know will be a much cleaner environment for cleaning my fish. if you do it properly it doesnt make such a mess at all.

Also have to agree Dhuboi

we bring all our fish home when in Perth, old fart has a good stainless steel bench, cleans everything, he cleans the fish and I wash/pat dry on the kitchen sink, then the filting table is hosed down completely then I go get the bleach, scrub the table/filleting board  down, hose it down , not one blow fly hangs around after the both of us have done our bit.  All frames/heads go in the freezer for cray bait.  He always gills/guts out in the boat.

Leeman's cleaning tables and sink aren't bad in the caravan park, but I still (if first ones there) scrub the table down and I have a very big cutting board that stays in the boat for cleaning/filleting fish, then like home take the fillets back to the van and wash/pat dry the fillets before vac sealing to freezing.

I've seen what empty beer kegs  look like coming back from up north, can just imagine what the filleting tables look like in public areas, ugh!  Even though they are sterilised wouldn't drink out of a keg of beer if you paid me yuck ugh.

Why not

Wed, 2011-07-27 08:02

have a button you push and someone appears from the "Research"  building and does them for you. With regards to the waste you would only have to take the skins and fillets home to freeze.

They will not really have to

Thu, 2011-07-28 14:22

They will not really have to big an issue. They already have stopped crabbing nets and have been told to sort out the mess by council. Mindarie is private land so they can do what they like. I'm not agreeing just pointing out that a few have ruined it for the rest. They also have cameras up now so they only have to pass pictures on to the police if people keep it up.

The rubbish isn't really from the builders, unless its the builders fishing. I'm down there alot and i laugh every time i see the rubbish. Even funnier is when the fisherman put it all in a bag, tie it up neatly and just leave it there on the jetty..

I should say only fishing on the inside of the harbour.

Cleaning tables

Wed, 2011-07-27 11:17

They would be good but can you imagine the uproar from tourists and non-anglers.

All it would take is to have a few guys with a good haul between them cleaning at the same time. The press would be down there with their cameras filming the proof of the "raping and pillaging" of the oceans off the Metro coast.

Also, you would get the do-gooders coming over offering their views of conservation to guys who are holding sharp knives.

Perhaps not such a good idea.

Wait to long

Wed, 2011-07-27 11:44

it is bad enough waiting for the boat cleaning area when some boaties abuse it. Have seen some there for 30plus minutes cleaning their boats and all the gear on board. If they were able to clean the fish as well would be mayhem on a busy day.

As stated before take it home, you can take you time and enjoy a coldie at the same time. My garden loves the frames especially the roses lol.

the only reason point peron is free

Wed, 2011-07-27 14:38

is because when the council tried to put in a parking meter it was towed out of the ground numerous times so they gave up trying!!! build yourself a small lean too behind your shed concrete it with a soak well and p trap to stop the odour! stainless bench with drying rack under neath ice machine to the side, aircon for summer and a beer fridge! so much more comfortable than cleaning on those benchs and letting everyone know what you have caught plus they wont follow you next time they see you if you had a good catch!

Like most people i can see a few negitives of a fish cleaning station at hillaries but a positive would be that having the fisheries research center rite there they would probly end up getting alot more fish frames dropped in for thier research. I know they would definently get mine then, at the moment for me its not possible to get them back there.

As mentioned above Hillarys

Thu, 2011-08-04 14:01

As mentioned above Hillarys is far to busy for filleting tables. There's not even any room to put them.

Pt Peron has a good amount of room with that little grassed area near the wash down area and there's usually more then ample parking available.

I don't actaully see that many people using the Pt Peron tables to be honest. Maybe only 1 in 5 retrevials, if that.

There would be some room over

Tue, 2011-08-23 15:09

There would be some room over by the research building.  then they could have all the frames they want.  I'm sure the guys at fisheries would be able to set up something.  Like the mobile cleanin service they had at the Kalbarri classic last year.  Awesome.  They fillet the fish for you and keep the frames.
