Cleaning a graphite blank for guide replacement?

I have replaced guides on my cheaper gear plenty of times but this is the first time I have been working with a graphite blank. Normally I use a scalpel and cut through the epoxy and thread above the foot of the guide, remove the guide then peel of as much thread and epoxy from around the around the area as I can. The problem is there is always a few little (and sometimes not so little) bits of epoxy left stuck to the blank. Previously I have just picked it away with the scalpel or even used sandpaper before starting the underwrapping. But working with a graphite blank I want to be carefull about how I clean off this remaining epoxy.

Any ideas how to go about this without damaging the blank?

Thanks

I wouldnt worry about the sand paper

as it can cause flatspots on your blank. If you get the angle of your scalpel right you should be able to scratch all of the epoxy off. Hint!! a blunt scalpel is better for this!

I am with BarneyBoy - you could use the scalp - too sharp for me - however a sharp knife scraping lightly over the bits. (Never use sandpaper) Once all bits off I use a plain cotton cloth with a little bit of spanaarjd lub to clean - then a dry cotton rag to afterwards - seems to get all bits off. I then wait for the rod to thoroughly to dry and all lube has evop before wrapping, coating and epoxy. Glad you doing it yourself mate - there is allways a 1st time and the next will be so much easier.

Cheers

Cheers for the help guys, went well. Replaced 2 guides and not a work of art but look pretty reasonable I think. Now to give the rod a test and see what happens lol
