Jaydens on the money. Also, having the hook fully exposed is a little different with circles. I have generally tried to have the entire hook exposed with the bait kinda hanging off it, where as with j hooks just the business end needs to be exposed. Ive even gone as far as using cable ties to have large baits sitting under the circle hook and have had pretty good hook up rates that way.

Stick with em mate. once you see em work you will be stoked. Don't always get your hook back though. sometimes even removing from the corner of the mouth can be tricky on bigger fish with thick hooks. but at least you know when they swim off they aren't bleeding from a hook stuck in their gills or gut

 circles - keep the hook

circles - keep the hook exposed. Hooks must be needle sharp. Gamakatsu out of box is fine but commercial type mustads needs sharpening. Crush the barb. No use for it. Makes it easier to penetrate hard areas in the mouth. I normally bridal baits, alive or dead. Some species & sizes grab and run then swallow. Give them room to move. Loose drag and as they are stripping slowly tighten up. Best test for self control.

Don't bury the hook into your bait too much, maybe tie your bait, on leaving the whole hook exposed
