Chicken breast for bait?
Submitted by Fathom on Thu, 2022-07-14 11:33
Havn't been able to get any occy lately, and @ $27kg it's getting a bit pricey. The schools of little pinkys around at the moment are a pain in the arse, I need a bait that can last long enough for my target species. I might try marinating chicken breast in Tuna oil for half the price of occy, anyone tried this?

chicken
Chicken oil is good i use chicken oil or the skelotons as snapper burly, mix the oild with stale bread drop it in a scaling bag and let it dangle works a treat. Fish are basicly scavangers and will eat almost any thing. I've had Snapper spew up star fish and even nudibranchs. If they arether and hugry they eat.

Good oil
The oil from cooked chooks is the best for burley mix, beats all the fish oil mixes hands down.
Used to leave a 20 litre drum at the local deli to collect from their chook cooker, stick some in a litre milk bottle with a small hole in the cap, tied about 5 metres of rope to it so it can roll about in the surf, herring by the hundreds would turn up in no time

All joking aside
All joking aside I use to live close to the collie river as a young fella and had a "Burley Bucket" that all scraps went into. I use to use raw chicken breast regularly for black bream. Back in those days we use to get black bream up to 3.5kgs, they were like pinkies and ran light freight trains
Cheers
