Chart plotter programme for note book

I am seeking a chart plotter/navigation programme to run on my laptop and want one that will use navionics cards. The two programmes I have in mind are the navionics PC plotter and C-Map.

If any members know of any other software that uses navionics cards I would appreciate being told about it.
Also if members could please give their opinions/views on either of the two programmes mentioned above they would be most appreciated
Why do I use a laptop you may ask, I'm as blind as a bat and I need a big screen and using a laptop is the cheapest way to get a 12" screen.

Ipad

Another idea is buy a 2nd hand Ipad and purchase the Navionics Australia application. Ipad's / Ipones GPS track way faster, more accurately and will cope better with the wet/salty/bumpy conditions out in the boat. Dont think you can get 12 inch but they are a good size. Anyway just an option.

I use Insight Planner on the PC Meg. You can load your Navionics chart onto your PC and then view and edit your waypoints and you can also create routes to upload to your plotter e.g. I’ve created a routes from Hillarys marina through the gap that is permanently on my plotter.

Have had bugs with InSight

Just be aware my Insight Planner is so buggy that it is almost impossible to use. I think it is because i do store alot of waypoints and have several folders for different areas that jam it up and it just sits with the hourglass spinning. The laptop is fine and at 10% so it is definately the program.

Now that you mention it Moose, I had that issue of lag and put it down to my old slow laptop which I have just upgraded and haven't installed Insight onto yet

Will be interested to see if you have some success but i think not. Let me know if suddenly it all comes good. I have had my son look at mine and he says it is definately the program.

That is exactly what I am chasing do you know if the programme runs on a laptop.

With the boat show coming up soon I think I’ll go to it and see if any of the exhibitors have it at a show price.

You’re welcome

so long as you have internet capability on your laptop, you can access that site.

maybe pair your phone to your laptop using Bluetooth, or wifi?

if you do this you will need to make sure you’re phone has good charge or you have a cigarette charger onboard.

that site works on iPads, or any windows devices..maybe a cheap Samsung tablet is the go, but their screens won’t be as big as your laptop.

Offline maps

i know that the navionics app on the iPhone allows you to store offline maps...for when you’re out of phone range.

i would think this website is live, and therefore only accessible while your phone has 3G or 4G signal
