Casting into those sea breezes
Can you handle those sea breezes? With the right gear and skills, you can fish almost anywhere and in almost any conditions.
We can show you how to get the best out of your own fishing gear if you would like to bring it along. You don't need any special gear to start dry casting. Many people use their regular fishing gear, particularly for the accuracy casting.
Where:- Yokine Reserve, Wordsworth Avenue, Yokine. Competition starts at 8:30am, but club members are there from around 7:00am onwards for setup and practice.
We can give advice on different rods and reels and show how these can go together, and also let you try out casting with different rod and reel combinations to find one that suits your fishing needs and your size and physical strength. This is important for the ladies and juniors, and those of us who aren't as young as we used to be, or for people who are struggling to cast the distances they want to.
Our visitors always get a lot of useful and practical tips, and often add ten to thirty metres to their casts on the first day - and, no, we don't catch many fish at drycasting, but those skills certainly help when we go fishing.
After the competition and the lessons for the visitors, we get together over a sausage sizzle and soft drinks, and talk about anything to do with fishing and casting.

As Terry said, you can get +30 meters extra on your casts after the first morning, and if you like the scene and want to join its bugger all for the year

If you just want some advice - it's free. Bring your own gear. It's a no strings offer, but get there early.
This is our monthly club casting competition day, so the members have their own casting to do starting at 8:30. See http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/DrycastingMain.html#DC2012
If you want to cast in our competitions (and you'll learn lots by doing this) - then we ask you to pay the day fees like all the club members pay - $10 per person, $12 per family.
That helps cover the cost of hiring Yokine Reserve, paid to City of Stirling = $800 per year. Plus cost of Public Liability Insurance = $995, essential when you are hurling lead weights around and a condition for hiring the reserve. $1800/12 =$150 per month.
We would of course, like you to join our Club, and we think you'll get back so much. Talk to other Club members and read the articles written by recent new Club members in http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/ReelTalkMain.html and decide for yourself.

Yep we had strong head winds at the Yokine Reserve. Here are some of the distances:
With 56 grams (2 ounces) weight:
134 metres, Andrew Pekaar,
120 metres, George Holman (veteran)
Artificial Bait:
119 metres, Peter Pekaar,
106 metres, George Holman
With 112 grams (4 ounces) weight:
158 metres, Peter Pekaar,
134 metres, George Holman
In November, Peter Pekaar cast Club and AAAWA State records of 196.35 metres with 112 grams and 171.63 metres with Artificial bait.

Summer is back and so are the winds!. Forecast for Sunday is min 16, max 33, winds easterly 30 to 35 km/h turning northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h during the day.
October casting had some great distances including a new WA State and Club record of 199.82 metres by Peter Pekaar casting 112 grams (4 ounces)
