service
would probably need a service after sitting for that long, and the fuel drained. i am no mechy but i would think a new impellor and a trailer service as well.

Star or Westerberg bandit
Looks like a Star hull or Westerberg Bandit. Older model mid 90's. As Shane O said the motor will probably need a service so wouldn't stray too far from the boat ramp if you're taking it for a spin. Well respected hull if it is what i think it is. Will be a good boat with a little TLC. Cheers.

Regarding weather 15 and
Regarding weather 15 and 15(1.5) is a good rule of thumb. If the winds are greater than 15 knots or the swell is greater than 1.5m its going to be an uncomfortable day out,
check out www.seabreeze.com.au
Also wind direction matters. Generally the easterly winds are more tame and occur in mornings.

The first thing that I would do
Before putting the boat on water I think it would be an excellent idea to get the motor serviced by a well respected Yamaha mechanic as well as give the trailer a through going over bearings etc.
The last thing that you need is for something to go wrong and put the knockers on a planned good day out. Good days on the water are the result of a good planning before hand.
You are not going to cross the Indian ocean or anything like that, but, a little bit of making sure the Is are dotted and the Ts crossed helps make the day great.
Great days on the water ahead hey.

Slowly slowy
Is my advise , You dont know the boat , so here are my tips. ( if you dont take it for a full service)
Unleaded has a very short life compared to the old super ( leaded fuel) so i too would drain tank , and change any inline
filter , and at least check fuel line and bulb for cracking , age etc. I would then refill tank and chuck a bottle of that fuel inj type cleaner in it ( yours carby of course)
Battery wise , in a older unknown boat I would either be done with it and throw a new battery in if your intent of keeping it, or at the very least take a spare good battery with tools
when you hit the water.
Electrics I would inspect before going out for age , neatness , corrosion etc, and at the least check if it has a marine type fuse box and take some spare fuses.
Trailer I would repack bearings ( not a big job if you have done before ) and inspect tyres for age cracking , rim corrosion etc as well as condition of winch rope/ cable.
Forgive me for next bit if your experienced but here goes, make sure you have a valid skippers ticket , and the boat is still registered with all safety gear to suit the waters you go , found on
transport marine website. www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/boating-rules-in-wa.asp
I would hit the river at a decent ramp , not on a weekend , so that after launching and putting boat to one side with a attendant , you can hit the rollers with some spray grease, before
winching her on later.
good luck.

Steering outa trouble
Looks like the old manual steering too, nothing wrong with that , but it does need to be well maintained.
Down where it slides into motor theres a big nut , you can undo that and slide innner tube thing most of the way out to clean , ( the old grease will stick and go gummy)
Get it shiny clean , and hit it with a good marine type grease , and reassemble , then get someone to man the wheel and work that sucker ,
pull back out part way again , hit with bit more grease then button her up.

Had a Westerberg looked just
Had a Westerberg looked just like this, solid boat and will shake your bones in conditions with wind over 10 knts and seas over 1 meter swell. As above advice take your time and learn what your boat can do in conditions close to shore and or rivers and estuaries.
