Hey all just after advice on the best and safest ramp to launch a small boat in Busso.

Inexperienced myself but have been out on boats and helped launch etc just want the easiest ramp for a novice.

Cheers

 The marina is the easiest

Sat, 2013-12-07 17:49

The marina is the easiest and safest, will be closed tomorrow though because of the ironman.

This time of year I launch off the beach, never have to wait for anyone else.

Yeah it's gonna be Xmas time. Where's the best beach launch? The marinas and jetties might be pretty packed.

Honestly,

over xmas EVERYWHERE will be packed.

For beach launching you have Peppi, Forrest and Wonnerup beaches. Also a beach style ramp at Dolphin road (more popular than the others) and Eagle Bay (boggy).

Yes, Port Geo will be busy but has 6 lanes to share the load.

My local ramp Abbey will become a madhouse and the ramps in Dunsborough (Quindalup and Old Duns) will be utter choas.

Best bet is to launch early and be patient upon you return.

ps. A reminder to metro visitors, there arn't Launch/Retrive lanes down here or any other of these types of 'formalities' you may have at your local so expect to see some 'timewasters'

That's why we come down first two weeks in Feb just as everyone else is back in Perth... can take our time launching and retreiving ;) (But not if others are waiting)

Dolphin street is a beach

Dolphin street is a beach launch off the sand, 4wd only.

I also had trouble launching at Newtons at low tide, pushed the boat off the trailer and it went splat onto the sand. Only just managed to slide it back into the water. Then getting the boat out I ended up spinning the car tyres until they dug down to the concrete and gripped.

Yeah had a look today and saw the closed beach sharks in area sign and the small concrete platform and after that is sand. Was only a little bit of the soft stuff but I've never done that before so I'm not so sure. Went to the marina too but is too far away. The problem with newtons is that the slope is not steep enough. Think I might just unwinch it slowly so the back doesnt tip into the sand

Yep

spot on Bruce.

Completley flawed design from day 1 and unfortunatly just another fuckup on a growing list of flawed projects in the Busso shire.

 Maybe if the dozer pulled

Tue, 2013-12-10 06:57

Maybe if the dozer pulled the sand out at abbey rather than pushing half of it back in it might help a little .. I have watched him a couple of times cleaning it and just shake my head. Also the people who fish that jetty seem to forget its a boat ramp . I no longer wait for them to move gear any more.. leave your rods hanging over the edge of the jetty and lines out and they will get broken .. Not to mention parents letting there kids swim on the ramp

 Ended up going in pretty

Tue, 2013-12-10 14:46

Ended up going in pretty easy but had to back in a fair way. Put some weight on the front of the ski to stop it sliding off too fast. Sand was pretty firm but put on the dif-lock for just in case. One thing i do like is that even with the wind blowing 30km/h the water is still fairly flat within 1km which is enough to get a feed of whiting and squid.

People fishing off the jetty at the ramp is a bit selfish when they leave their stuff hanging off the edge, but whats even worse is when there are divers 100 metres off the beach with no dive flag. Almost impossible to see when driving into the sun and wind and all you can see is white.

try monohans or dolphin road they're pretty good
the ramp at the end of georget street is pretty average but is still pretty good with minimal waiting time at its peek

Umm,

Wed, 2013-12-11 12:26

as stated on here already the ramp at 'monoghans' (Abbey/Newtown Beach whatever you want to call it) is a ballsup.

Constantly covered in sand and regularly sees cars/4x4's bogged attempting to retrieve at low tide.

The sooner they either extend or remove the rock groynes either side of the ramp the better. At their current length they just act as a sand trap and couldn't be more pointless IMO.

Sucks as it's only 2mins from my house

bloody shire

Wed, 2013-12-11 21:06

the shire/city are idiots they dont even know the cause and effect of putting hard structures in a sand bay

they've clearly demonstrated their incompotence with the sand bags and various groynes along the shore line

they screwed up the marine rescue boat ramp by putting the concrate paving in which was destroyed in the last srom therefor blocking the easiest path to launch from now more 4x4 are getting boged than eaver. we stoped using georgette street because of the concrate blocks and it annoys me as well cause i live roung the corner from it

LOL

Even the old ramp was better even though it was a bit rough and deteriorated but could still put in 6m+ boats.

Dolphin street has a much better decline and the sand seemed pretty firm. Still some people using it despite the shark signs!

Might have to knock up an extendable draw-bar for Chrissy and Jan when I come back to save the car...

I assume you fellas use the marina ramps?
