Easiest Knot To Tie...

Mon, 2011-03-07 20:04

For me easiest is the double uni or back to back uni joining knot.

FG knot is all I will be

Mon, 2011-03-07 20:16

FG knot is all I will be using from now on, except for heavy jigging where I will stay with PR using bobbin where it ispossibly a tadstronger?

FG casts heaps better than albright, GT or even PR.

FG is very easy (thanks SamC for the instruction) and was proven on our recent ONO trip on everything from PE8 to PE2.

Slim Beauty

Tue, 2011-03-08 09:40

Go the Slim Beauty knot, easy to tie, goes well through your guides when casting and is perfect for lines/leaders under 10 pound i find. You shouldn't have any problems finding a "how to" on google. There was also a diagram of how to tie it in december's Fishing World magazine

Simple, strong!!

Tue, 2011-03-08 10:01

4lb to 4lb, 4 turn Uni Mono, 8 turn Uni Braid! Done! There is better casting knots but they are all complicated cf B2B UNI. If you can be bothered, and I would if it is comps etc, Bimini twist double in Braid, then double into the UNI. Still fairly simple. IMO Albrights unless tied spot on can slip, and have done so in my hands (probably due to poor tying technique), whereas a back to back Uni have never slipped.

Hope this helps.

I've never heard of fg, gt or pr knots. What are they and are they complicated? Never used an Albright because of the possibility of slipping. I always use the double uni but if you're using a heavy wind on leader the knot starts catching on the guides.. I googled fishing knots and came up with the yucatan knot. Looks simple and strong. Has anyone used this knot?

Yucatan is good. I use it for boat purposes as it is reall really quick to tie. Not good for casting as such as the tag faces backwards/outwards.

uni to uni

Sun, 2011-11-27 14:28

I would definately use uni to uni for light lines (anything less than say 8 pound). There are slimmer knots but who cares when you are only using light line. A uni to uni in 4lb line is gonna be really slim anyway. I usually use 2 to 4 lb braid to 6lb fluoro leader.

Personally, I steer awy from anything that needs a bimini. I can tie them well, but often have a problem with them catching the first guide (particularly if it is windy or I am really trying to cast far.

FG knot is awesome for mid weight lines (10lb to 60lb, maybe even heavier). Really slim, strong and casts awesome. I have been using this know for a little while now and have never broken the line at the FG knot.

pr or fg. just learnt them

Fri, 2011-12-30 01:36

pr or fg. just learnt them both and they are not too hard to do. recently bought a jigging master pr bobbin, makes it very easy to tie a PR knot with its weight and adjustable drag

This knot is reasonably easy to tie in all line strengths and is great for casting. It is said to retain the full strength of the leader

knot is quite strong tied prop. but in the 4lb gear, I have had it pull thru a few times and catches on the guides which prob. starts the process off slipping. PR or FG knot sounds like the go. Will do the google thing.

Only problem there mate is the tag ends

Fri, 2012-01-06 14:55

I agree it's a strong knot but try casting it! I have ripped the eyes out of my rod or seen weighted poppers heading to south africa as the tags catch the eyes. The only thing that will work in a casting situation is a knot where the tag end is at the braid end and not the leader end. As I have discussed before the perfect knot for this application is the FG knot. It's difficult to tie but if done well is very strong and has no tag end on the leader side.

The only other solution is to buy a rod and then pay to have bigger eyes replacing the originals. That suits some but not me. I would rather find a more thought out solution as above. It's not just about how strong the knot is, it's about how practical it is.

we're talking under 10lb line

Fri, 2012-01-06 15:01

we're talking under 10lb line here i wouldn't overcomplicate it, improved albright or back to back uni mate, if you wanna be flash with a double tie a spider hitch, whats 80% strength vs 95-100% strength 0.1 to 0.2kg? are you gonna measure that, probably not....

Yes, your right about very lite line

Fri, 2012-01-06 16:12

I hadn't picked up on that. Sorry. My input is based around attaching medium class lines and leaders. In particular surf casting setups. Thanks for the clarification.

I'd go the back 2 back uni.

Fri, 2012-01-13 08:21

I'd go the back 2 back uni. The principle would be be to use more turns for thinner line. Experiment with amount of turns since coating on some braids cause knots to slip.Lube it up with saliva's natural magic knot lube and pull tight and test. FG for 20lb plus, considering guide diameters.

Five turn surgons Knot

Fri, 2012-01-13 09:03

Try the five turn sergons knot, simple as and never fails, and very small knot. good for flicking SP on light line.
