Borrow Epirbs
Submitted by BQ544 on Tue, 2009-02-17 07:30
Been going out on my buddies boat because he got the new epirb, but want to take my boat out tomorrow. Is it legal to use his epirb on my boat if he is with me?
thanks

Some guys have been renting them off someone on here.
Im not sure of the legalities as when you buy an epirb you have to register it and provide the details of the boat it is going to be used upon and they then send you back a registration sticker you have to affix to the epirb.
I guess somethings better than nothing though.

Really can't say
all I know is that your mates epirb has to be registered and all his details boat, number (rego) contact details etc are registered in his name, so if you are in trouble and set the epirb off theywill be looking for your mates boat not yours I could be wrong. I'd think it would be seriously wrong if in trouble and found the authorities might give you a tongue lashing?????

You can register a second
You can register a second vessel on a single epirb IIRC.

i purchased an epirb for my dads boat and registered it for him, when i went to register the epirb i could put on a 2nd boat, hence i registered my own boat as well...

how about if you go online
how about if you go online and change the registration from his boat to mine. And then the next day switch it back?
And how about us guys who have a boat and a dingy, you need to take an epirb when we put the dingy in at preston. But you wouldn't want to have to buy two epirbs.
