Boat vs land based etiquette

Went for a fish today land based at one of my local tailor spots in Henderson I put a bit a bit of effort in to find the school and got a hook up then dropped the fish as they are hard to land off the cliffs I kept moving so the spooked school could settle then two knobs in a dingie decide they want some action pull up in a metre of water where the school was drop their anchor then smack their lures on the surface of the water for whatever reason and then fish paternoster rigs off the side 'in a meter of water ' wtf needless to say no one caught a fish from then on. I felt like sconning them with a rock

Went for a fish today in my dinghy, hooked a tailor in a school, which I dropped. I moved off to let the school settle and when I came back to my regular spot there was some knob casting at the school scaring them off.

Ok I'll be Captain Obvious. The point being made is that it's all relative. To use an apt line from Friday Funnies this week, "I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you"

Had a land-based bloke abuse me for anchoring too close to the pylons (NOT in the nav channel!) of the Dawesville bridge, but conveniently ignored the fact that he was fishing two metres away from a "no fishing" sign.

Sun, 2015-07-12 09:18

Your missing the point I had only moved like 5 metres down. Next point is who anchors 30 metres from shore in a metre of water to fish heavy paternoster rigs and there was no wind water was flat as a pancake

I think what they are trying

Sun, 2015-07-12 11:11

I think what they are trying to say is, from where your sitting the bloke in the dinghy might look like he's doing the wrong thin, but from his perspective it might look completely different?
Next time try waving and saying Gday...........youll probably end up having a better day?

I did I said hey mate there 'was' a tailor school where he parked up and I doubt he would catch any thing in those exact words his reaction was that he was offended that someone from the shore was talking to him

Land based over boaties. Its the old debate like the Eagles and Dockers, East Perth and West Perth, straight or gay. Some people are simply in the right, the others are Garlic munching poofs wearing purple on the bank wishing they had a boat!

Im glad we could have this little discussion to clear things up for you.

Casting at boats

Sun, 2015-07-12 17:57

A long time ago when i was very young, i was heading out from the Mandurah mouth in my dinghy , past a jetty with several blokes fishing with rods. They all started yelling at me so probably i had driven through a school of fish. I was oblivious to that. I could have been too close to the jetty but i was just a kid - maybe 13. One guy cast at me. The sinker & hooks sailed past my ear & caught in one of the rowlocks. So I accelerated the boat (more in fear initially) & peeled off about 100 mtrs of his line before he could snap it off. Then pulled all the loose line in while he yelled even louder. I laughed all day. Theres always two sides to a story.

I do laugh at the "peg a sinker" at them.

Considering that a sinker in the back of the head could kill someone, or in the eye could blind them, I don't know who would be so much of an absolutely shit human to actually genuinely consider it

Had a guy cast in my direction at South Guildford when I was drifting along fishing the snags on the opposite side of the river. Your typical Bombo Valley bogan drinking bush chooks complete with the usual rat tailed kids and fat Mrs. I tried to cut his line but he was onto me and wound it in and I took off before he perfected his cast the 2nd time.

Mon, 2015-07-13 15:34

It's as simple as showing people respect. Don't do what you wouldn't like someone to do to you.

if fishing from a boat, I don't go to within casting distance from the beach.

i have seen plenty of it this season with the salmon around, people have no idea, running over lines when you have a fish on, getting right on top of the school or going right to where you are casting.

Just don't be a twat and we can all enjoy our RECREATION together.

Close to salmon schools

Mon, 2015-07-13 20:11

Was working on a salmon team at Eagle Bay when a clown decided to drive his boat inside of our net as it was being rowed around a school of salmon. Wouldn't have been more than 40 metres off the beach, once he woke up the clown decides to drive out over the net and of course cuts shit out of it and stalls the boat.
Lucky for him there was a crowd on the beach watching otherwise he would have been calling for his ride to hospital in an ambulance. Still it cost him hundreds of dollars for repairs to our net before we agreed to let him take his boat anywhere.

This is when there was restrictions for vessels not to travel within 200 metres of the shoreline from March through to June between the north end of Bunker bay to Castle rock.

Henderson cliffs

Wed, 2015-07-15 19:45

was a favourite of mine in the tinny. I would take my 4yr old (at the time) and troll lures up and back. Great memories we have and now I have an 18ft fibreglass I wont be trolling along that area again.
I recall 1 day while my son was hooked into a solid tailor (for his size) another boat, 18ft ali, saw the action and decided he wanted in. Well he must of thought there was mackies or sailfish cause I swear he was doin about 18 knots back and forth, frightened the crap out of the fish! At first I was annoyed but then I saw the funnier side....

And I moved on.

Went there next time and the fish were still there...
