Public ramp is very good,no problems leaving car overnite. If launching on low tide use ramps closest to rock wall as it is deeper.`if you use the karratha ramp its not so good and a high tide ramp only.

As you are not familiar with

As you are not familiar with the place, I would avoid launching or retrieving at low tide during the lowest of lows, eg Wed 17th &Thurs 18th October.  The tides are very low in morning and evening, but if you can plan to launch at 8AM and be back by 4PM there will be plenty of water.  This is for Dampier, as Solly said, the Karratha ramp is going to be bone dry for half of the day during the larger tides.  Sunday 23rd onwards will give you a week of stress free launching with the Neaper tides.

Ask Adam to put up some of his Red Emperor spots for you to try

Plan your trips so you dont come home with neap lows. Like pale Ale said, if you are a local and have learned then it is do-able, but it is no fun sitting stuck on sand for a couple of hrs (Usually less). Remember even at a 0.7m tide on neaps, it only takes about 45min either side to have enough water.

I normally aim at about 1m, and you can calculate that level by looking at the high level (say 4.5m) and the low (say 0.5m). Difference is 4m. Rougly devide that by 6hrs ~= 700mls of water per hr and then you can calculate roughly when you can or cant get in. As a rough rule an hour either side of a low is safe.

So either fish shorter, or better longer!!

Im not familiar with the public ramp, but lots of cars and trailors are left there for island trips and havent heard of any issues. At the club it is behind a fence, but if someone wanted to its just as open as the public, and you only need the Key to get in. The gate opens auto on the way out. And I leave the car/trailor there overnight very often with no issues ever.

The tide rule of 12's (semi-diurnal)

1st hour=1/12's

2nd hour=2/12's

3rd hour=3/12's

4th hour=3/12's

5th hour=2/12's

6th hour=1/12
