Boat Fishing - Soft Plastics
Submitted by DieHard on Wed, 2012-07-04 21:51
Hey all,
Its been quite a long time since ive been on! but im back and keen on some fishing for sambos, dhuis, snapper etc.
Keen to start using soft plastics on the boat and catch some decent fish, few questions.
what weight jig head do you guys recommend?
what soft plastic size? im thinking 7"?
Ill be fishing in water from 20m to around 40m, 3mile to back of rotto etc.
I know different weights for different currents etc. but just need somewhere to start off at!
All opinions are more than welcome!
Cheers!

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

i haven't done much jigging
i haven't done much jigging yet myself, but i think it is a case of the jighead size depends on your drift. you want just enough to keep in the strike zone near the bottom, and no more. this may depend a bit on the quality of your braid as well, the cheaper ones i understand are thicker and therefore more resistance through the water requiring more weight to get them down.
personally, i like the berkley elevator jig head with a 7in sp, but as i say, i haven't done much myself. i think they come in 1, 2 and 4 oz at the moment with heavier sizes on the way.
Fish! HARD!
