Boat buyers - beware

Just a heads up to anyone buying a boat -
I looked at a boat about a month ago with a mate of mine who is looking to upgrade, long story short he did not buy it but i have since found out that the boat we looked at has now been repossessed - so just thought it was worth mentioning given the current enviroment (especially) if you are looking to buy a boat make sure it is not encumburred
A PPSR search (which is not expensive) will tell you if the asset has is held for security against anything
cheers

do you have a number or a
do you have a number or a link to who does a check?
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

I believe there may also a
I believe there may also a Commonwealth small ships register, from memory commercial or ex commercial can be listed there rather than PPSR
But yeah, timely advice and goes for almost any goods with a substantial value.
Similarly with stolen/written off goods, there was a case of a bloke in SA who bought his dream car of a Vic copper, a Porche 911 or something.
Couple of years later it went over the pits for some reason, inspector noticed the rego papers had a minor VIN error (L as one or something) which then turned out to have been a repaired writeoff.
There was no possible way to get it registered for the road again and the courtcase failed also for some reason
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Buyer beware
I had a 15 HP outboard stolen from me. Was in a shed in the back yard in Perth. Insurance wouldnt cover it. Four years later i got a call from Bunbury Police. They had taken it off a guy in Capel. He had bought it from a pawn shop. When he tried to register it, it flaged as stolen and the police gave it back to me. It was in good condition when i lost it & poor condition when i got it back but i was pretty happy any way.
