Blow Fish

Ok who has or what has taken all the blowfish from the Mandurah estuary.

I've just got back from trying to dab a few prawns in the shallows and for the first time I have only seen two blowies.
Normally you have this big brown cloud following you around and even coming up and bitting the hairs on your legs.
The two blowies I did see tonight at first look looked as though some one had put a ring on their tail (just as you do sheep) so I netted one and found no there was no ring or fishing line or whatever the tail had just wasted away just behind the body.
The tail of the blowie was very very thin and it looked like the fish was starving and wasting away (both blowies looked the same)
My question is has anybody else noticed this deformity on the blowies, and what appears to be a massive reduction in their numbers in the estuary, not that I'm complaining about the drop in numbers mind you.
If anybody has been fishing with bait in the estuary (a near impossible task) I would be most interested to hear if you have observed a significant drop in blowie numbers.

I saw a baited corks all along the shoreline. Blowie culling campaign after another fatal attack on whiting bait. Everywhere or just the spot you where?

was fishing the Narrows bridge the other night and only got 1 blowy unfortunatly that was the only thing we caught haha.

Also fished the Canning near Shelly the next day from about 11am through to about 6pm with bait and only got a small handfull between 2 of us

Hopefully it stays this way

Went crabbing in Mandurah

Mon, 2014-01-06 12:54

Went crabbing in Mandurah Sunday and all of our nets pulled up blowies. Only had mullet for bait so they made short work of that. Had to go home after 2 pulls with only 3 size crabs!
