Hi guys,
Heading out this weekend for the usual demersal fish out past Garden Island but would like to try and get amongst the salmon if any about however I have never fished for them from a boat before.
Just after bit of advice for targeting them offshore.
How / where do you find them and what's the best tactics ( trolling or casting )? Any particular lures work best ?
Thanks for any tips,
Joycey

I am no expert, but found a big school whilst bottom bouncing a couple of weeks back and caught/released a load of them. We had a couple of rods ready with poppers but to be honest they would take anything when hungry. Just keep an eye out for the birds. Also have a search, there was a recent post about what lures work. Concensus seemed to be that most do! Quite a few recommending richter plugs. Hope that helps a bit.

Caught a heap of BIG salmon
Caught a heap of BIG salmon last weekend trolling a Deep Diving Rapala. Even though fish were on the surface (could see them) they wouldn't hit a popper, they'd chase it but thats it.
