Fished as a pro up there a few years back,we used to work on a scale of 1x nautical mule equals 1 x metre in depth so if you want to fish deep water you have to be prepared to travel
living up there for 13yrs mate and i saw only a handful of sails... never usually closer in than 25-30m of water. couple of blokes had some success trolling baits and teasers out past the channel entrance there is a big sandy lump on the charts... they landed a few.. the pro mackie fisherman up there webby told me of some monster marlins hooked whilst working but alonnnnnnng way out... as carnavonite mentioned its a hell of a long way to find decent water there... 100clicks to find 50m of water.. cant be compared with the fishery off damps thats for sure but if u put the work in u may get a couple...
I've seen sailies free jumping twice while in Hedland. You see plenty of flying fish this time of year so you are a chance. Probably better off towing to Balla or Dampier but.

from what I know, it's not even close to Dampier.... like, I have heard reports, but it doesn't seem to be very common and it's usually 'very' wide.
