Best/Safest Child Fishing Spot
Submitted by Pembo on Sat, 2012-02-04 13:39
I am looking for the best/safest spot to go fishing with a three year old. I live in City Beach but am prepared to travel up to 30 mins. Most likely will try and fish mid afternoon. Any advice on locations would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Disabled platform at hillaries north wall. I hope that's "politically correct". Would hate to offend anyone.

What do you want the kid to catch???
If it is anything any jetty will obviously have heaps of blowies, and for a 3 yo it would be as much fun catching the poor old blowie than anything else. They just love catching anything. I had hours of fun with my two when I had a unit in Mandurah on the canals catching small tarwhine, black bream and 2000 blowies. They just loved it and because of the constant hook up rate have been hooked on fishing.
Hope this helps, but a kid is just a kid, for them a fish is just a fish.

Maybe a bit young yet?
Not sure I would be going anywhere near the water with a 3 year old unless it was on a lead and someone else was holding it. OK a bit of a paddle in the ocean or in the river is OK. I remember taking my two young boys for a jetty fish when they were like 4 and 5 and as soon as I turned my back the kids tossed everything in the water. Be paient. They will grow up to be great fishermen I am sure.

The harbor in hilleries
The harbor in hilleries marina near aqua is quite safe, could tie a leangth of rope to a pole so the can get to the edge but not go over it if you wanted, whiting, small crabs and blowies also the odd tarwine or flathead

claremont jetty, if you stick
claremont jetty, if you stick to the first half of it, its also very shallow, so if anyone falls in its only shoulder deep, so easy to find them
plenty of blowies there, plus others....
