For a cage add some water,

For a cage add some water, tuna or pilchard oil, some liquid aniseed and a bit of crushed garlic to your berley bucket.  Then mix in some pollard until it's like polyfilla then put that in your berley cage.

Another good additive (if you can get it) is pure chicken fat (not that rubbish from Red Rooster or Chicken Treat) just fat that has been melted down fromn unseasoned chicken skins.

I've found that adding a bit

I've found that adding a bit of chicken fat in with the mix works wonders, but it's a pain in the backside frying up the skins to get the fat out.

It's not really that hard to

It's not really that hard to attract herring and gardies, they arent that fussy. Just mix some pollard + water and shove it in your berley cage/throw it in the water and your set. You can use fish oil instead of water if you really desire.

Bread will work for berley too if you dont have any pollard.

Go and buy some Arnots Shapes in BBq or chicken, throw some of those in the water and the herring will go nuts.

 I've nearly done any fishing

Sun, 2013-03-31 20:34

I've never really done any fishing at woodies (mainly because I lived most of my life in the northern suburbs).  But am taking the boat out from there on Tuesday for the first time.

 WAs thinking about trying

Sun, 2013-03-31 20:45

WAs thinking about trying some of the deeper spots for a while then head in closer for a bit of bread and butter stuff so that I'll hopefully have something to take home.  Have got a couple of ideas of places to try out but fishing in Cockburn sound from a boat is an entirely new experience for me.  Then again so is fishing from a boat in general as I've only had about 5 outings in the last 35 years.
