Beach anchoring at Rotto
Submitted by ctan1968 on Thu, 2014-02-06 21:54
Sorry, not really fishing related.
My boat is a support boat for the Rotto swim and I would like to stay the night on board the boat by beach anchoring.
Are any bays north of Rotto allowed? Looking for a bay still close enough to get to the settlement (Geordie, Longreach). South of the Army jetty is available but probably will fill up fast. I do believe its a first in best dressed system.
I am aware I need a landing sticker for the boat when beach anchoring.
Thanks in advance
Chris

Mate. Go on the rotto
Mate. Go on the rotto website and you will find a boating brochure with a map including all the spots for tenders, beach anchoring etc

ouside of sanctuary zones
and outside of no boating zones, and more than 50m from a mooring,
You are ok. You are supposed to use 3 anchors, its all in the brochure as the man said.

And you chain cant damage
And you chain cant damage any weed beds either. Not that you really want to be putting your anchor near weed anyway. I got in early and booked a beach mooring in north bathurst. :-) knowing my luck some prick will jump on it and cause me grief getting him off! :-(

Where are you launching
Where are you launching from? I'm thinking of a friday night launch and sleeping on the boat at Hillarys. I am supporting a solo so its going to be a really really early start if I launch saturday morning.

Randall, that is what I have
Randall, that is what I have done the last times my boat was a support boat but in ocean reef marina on the opposite landing from the launch ramps.
Another idea is to run to the starting line area the day before and record the route on your GPS so you know what to follow without trouble the next morning in the dark.
Good luck!

Rotto
Hi Randall/Glastronomic,
I will launch at hillarys the evening before for early departure next morning to Cott. Im the paddler and my father I L will skipper my boat. It was only last minute I decided to stay the night. I have beach anchored before in Thompsons but that was only for about an hour. Never overnight.
I'll buy an online application and trust my luck at Longreach or Geordie.
Tahnk you
