What lures/bait rigs should I use for Barra?

Barra catchers

Hey mate,

A few techniques that have worked for me.

Bait : Live mullet hooked onto a 7.0 or 8.0 hook with running sunker to the hook works well.

Lures : Anything that swims and suspends.  Just remember nice long pauses in retrieval.  Most of the Barra I've caught have hit the lure on the pause.

Soft plastics : Ones that have worked really well are the Squidgy Slick Rigs 65-80mm fish.  Colours that have done the most damage are the Drop Bear,        Gold Glimmer and the Green/Gold.  Let them sink a bit, especially around snags.  Just keep your drag real tight!

Also, poppers do well, also with big pauses in between pops.

All the best mate!

Regards

Wazza

I agree with Wazza there! Good lures that have always produced for me up there are the rod Gaden pro series in shallow water( about+6)is good and nice bright colours like guns and roses and bobby dazzler! Good luck.

It will be worthwhile also

It will be worthwhile also taking some Soft Plastic prawns. I use the Berkley power bait shrimp 4 inch in natural colour and the light 1/8 ounce TT jig heads. I sometimes use resin heads for even lighter work. The Barra love them. I used to use the Tilsan Barra and Tilsan Bass lures to great effect and they work well but I find it hard to go past the prawns these days. Obviopulsy big live prawns rigged under a float are impossible to resist.
