Baitcatser vs spining fo inshore plastics

Looking at getting new 3-6kilo outfit for plastics. fish under 20m of water for snaps, dhu, skippy .

Always fished with spining reels for any lure work (sol, segate) but after reading many reveiw on tackle tour have been seriously considering getting a baitcaster.

So far i really like the look of the revo toro, and on the spining side a 3000 sized luvias, bradia,

Before everyone jumps on and tells me what they use and how great it is. I was woundering if there is anyone out there who uses/used both and can explain why one is better than the other.

I know most wa lure fishos use spining reels but in the USA baitcasters are the mainstay.

Are we behind the 8ball over here or are they?

Ive used both. On a baitcaster now. I think its mainly personal preferance. But i do like how a baitcaster doesnt twist your line but with all the new spinners out now twist isnt really an issue.

Another thing is with a baitcaster you cant let the bail arm out and quickly lift the rod to let a heap of line out so the plastic sinks quicker. You have to let the line out more gradually and thumb the spool, or else backlash heaven. But if you using heavier enough plastic you can feel the plastic sink.

You can also use 1 hand with a baitcaster as the freespool lever is behind the spool. You just use your other hand to turn the handle to engage the gears.

Hope I made some sence.

good question .. yeah its a lot to do with what you prefer . but its also what you want to do i suppose .. the baitcasters having a drum spool supported on both ends should be stronger and less likely to move gears causing them to strip .. but they are really not great casting very light plactics and lures ..

spin reels are much better at casting lighter weights and with the new reels are almost as strong .. they are also a better "allround" reel .. you can use them for a lot more with a lot less training.

personaly .. go the spin reel

I've use both and don't have a favourite. Advantage of the baitcaster is the can thumb the bait/lure on the drop and feel for hits, I have trouble doing this with a spin reel. Having said that my spin reel gets plenty of use too. I'll never prefer one over the other, both have their place.

Baitcasters dont cast well with light stuff. Eggbeater for me everytime with light lures and plackies.

I have baitcasters (Shim Curados) and Eggies (Shim Saragosas) for lures and plackies, and if the lures and plackies are light baitcasters are not up to the chop. If you have to get more accuracy baitcasters are a little better, but just ask the Breamos and they all use eggies for their little lures and plackies, and they can cast them in very tight to structure.

Because I am left handed, and fish right handed, I get a little arm confused with the baitcasters, and still think I cast more accurate with a eggie.

Mate stay with the SOL.

Have both....

Use a Daiwa Tierra 1500 and 4000 for light and medium soft plastics, got a shimano Calcutta 400 for light demersal jigs, heavier softies and light live baits...

Certainly spin gear is easier and more practical in most instances....but the overhead just makes it feel that much more special..........
