Waste of time
If you mean the Quarry rocks on the northern end of the Back beach you are going to be disappointed as there is nothing but sand out in front of them to hold big fish. You can burley up a herring , whiting or two but not much else.
Down the southern end at Hungry Hollow there is a better chance of an odd salmon or two first thing in the morning or herring and silver bream in the evening again if you are really lucky a chance of a mulloway.
The Old cut or over the top of the estuary at Belvedre or Buffalo you will have more luck than in town if you try in the evening with a sea breeze to chop it up a bit.

Try the clam in between
Try the clam in between hungry hollow and the surf club. There are a few drains that m/t out there and have created a nice channel and bank out the back. There is no weed at the moment either, its close to the road so no big walk and the pubs close if you dont get a fish.Get salmon there early in the mornings when they run and have caught my biggest croaker there as well, also plenty of small whiting and hairing and the odd tailor. If you have a 4x4 belvedere buffalo and south of toen forrest beach are all worth a look.
