Artificial jigs for snapper, How do they go?
Submitted by PattyT on Wed, 2011-08-31 16:08
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has had much success on the artifical jigs (Like the williamson yabai, and shimano lucanus) for snapper? I have heard that the reds love them so im pretty keen to give them a try this season. . Any info or reports on how they go would be great!
Cheers

Haven't seen the williamson's
Haven't seen the williamson's in action, but we got a few on the weekend on jigs.
I got one on a caprice, think my mate got one on a lucanus (but may have been a fanky, cant remember which lure he was running at the time).
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

haha no wukkaz! How's that
haha no wukkaz! How's that snapper just floating on the top, 20 secs after he mentions that they'll take care of it later its about 50m away lol. I just went and looked at some this arvo the lightest they had was 100g, pretty sure they come lighter, I'll only fish it in 20m max

What I found most interesting
What I found most interesting when I caught this one was that there were three other guys fishing with bait on board at the time. They all caught smaller fish on the baits whilst I got this one and had another on for 10 sec or so which felt like it had a fair bit of weight to it. I find the larger fish tend to go the lures before the dead baits. I have also used livies for big snapper at times.
On another trip off Coffin bay was winding in an Octo jig and had it half way the the surface when it was slammed hard, was a moment or two where neither me or the fish gained any ground and then it took off towards the bottom ( I think it took 2 seconds to realise something wasn't right about the occy it just ate), wasn't much I could do but hang on to my PE4 rod, it made the bottom and "ping". - I suspect it was a large blue groper.
Cheers
