Just wanted to speak someone who gets a good signal on the sounder.
Ive been trying to get the transducer in the right spot so I dont get any breaking up on the screen.

Yes i have a 585 on my trailcraft. I swear they have put the mounting plate in the wrong spot. Mine is mounted as far away and as high as possible away from the motor.

water inlet
what size boat do you have simo, as wade said there has been a few issues come up on the site with the same question, i have a 610 c/cab, in front of the cab is a fish box with a water inlet under neath the hull.
The water inlet pipe is directly inline with the transducer mounting bracket and causes no end of troouble with air bubbles travelling along the under side of the hull, i tried filling mine with foam fill and also dropping the transducer very low into the water against what the recomendations were for standard installations. i gave up in the end because i was also getting prop wash interference as well.
Either mount the transducer on the other side of the motor or i ended up with a through hull transducer 700 mm in front of the motor on the port side, problem solvered

yep.... a 620
on a Freestyle 510.
At first I mounted the transducer according to the installation instructions and got a crap signal at high speeds...
Lowered the bracket down and works a treat at full throttle.
Let me know if interested and I'll post some pics tomorrow showing placement.
cheers,
Paul

Paul you got yours now just
Paul you got yours now just right. ( +/- 3cm from the hull line)and in the clear water and in the middle away from those strakes on the left & right that will cause dirty water as well.
pressed and rigged allie hulls are a bugger to get clean water under at speeds over 15knots. Those hulls are not designed to give a smooth water flow and many actually benefit from air bubbles strapped under the hull and improving the fuel economy and ride.
Also having the bottom slighty angled forward, about 10deg helps to keep the under surface of the tranny bubble free and aim slightly ahead of you. Remember when you moving the signal sent out is traveling at speed of sound, 330m/sec and has to bounce back. if directly down you loose a % of the return signal coming back behind your boat as you have moved forward in that half a second or so...
At 30knots, you can loose up to 40% of the return signal in 50m of water, so if it's aimed slightly forward you gain this lost signal content, as it comes back up a few meters ahead of where you sent it from.
some times playing with the angle of the transducer facing forward can help with break-up at speed, it's trial and error in many dirty-hull water situations.

thanks
Thanks for the pics Kane. Mine is mounted where your water pick up pipe is. I might try dropping it down a little further, looking at your photo but.

I lowered it and had the same problem. Seems to break up when going over waves.

I know it's an old post but
I know it's an old post but cheers for the info (especially kane with your pics). We finally got around to moving the transducer on my old man's boat and took it for a quick spin in the estuary down at Dawesville. I dropped the tranny so it was in a similar spot as the pics and it now works really well. Mind you, we were only in 2m of water and the water was flat as. In the old position, the tranny would stop reading at about 10 knots. Yesterday after the move, we got up to about 27 knots and were still getting a fairly good reading.
It will be interesting to see what the results are when we get out in a bit of chop and swell? I don't know why we didn't move it years ago???
