Ok so the boat's coming home from her summer pad so I can service her and get ready for Gnaraloo. So am thinking of taking the boys for a Salmon hunt. How much longer do you guys think they will hang around metro and what lures do you recommend? I'm thinking stick baits?

Plastics
I was using plastics and lures yesterday. After multiple hook ups with me and my 4yr old i quickly used the one outfit. I chose the soft plastics set up and boy!! What fun!! Mate they pulled so much harder and the strike was purposeful. I am out tomorrow. I first trolled it and then if the school was under me let the softie drop. I lift and it was on for young and old! I can't remember how many I caught, dropped and released.
Enjoy.

Totally agree
If the salmon are not taking anything whatsoever a placcy always does the job. Was at bunkers the past few days, stick baits sometimes tempt, poppers sometimes temp but if you get a plastic into the school you are almost guaranteed a hookup.
my favorite soft plastic for salmon that never fails is the McCarthy paddle tail 5" or 6" with 1/2 ounce jighead and 6/0 hook. Here is a pic from bunkers the other day with that lure!

Surface lures
Start on the surface - nothing better than seeing a salmon chase and nail a surface stickbait or popper. A quick retrieve, like flat out, should fire them up if they are being lazy.
SP's are my backup and if they are super cagey put an unweighted one on and give it heaps of action. Squidgy flick baits are pretty deadly but the reality of things is that they'll take anything so go something white and cheap.
