Another rescue

Another happy ending, well almost. I wonder what stage the epirb was activated? Perhaps he needed to retrieve if from the boat.

Log on
Very lucky to still be alive.
If he had logged on he would have been home in time for tea, another case of "she'll be right, I know what I'm doing

Looking at the wind speeds yesterday
Who the hell would venture out even 5km in a boat of that size - it was a howling southerly most of the day offshore

Hmmmmm, who passed him for his recie skippers ticket?
May have got the you have been a boat owner for long enough. But if he sat a test perhaps the tester should be questioned.
Takes all sorts I guess.

Listening to the police
Listening to the police officer in charge of the rescue on 882 this arvo, apparently he was close to shore when he tipped it pulling his pots, and was blown out to sea. He set of his flares last night and weren't seen as well as the older superceded epirb. For some reason he didn't set of his second epirb (current model) until around 1100 this morning then they managed to find him pretty quickly, setting off his orange smoke flare when he heard the rescue chopper.
very lucky boy.

Logging on / off should be
Logging on / off should be mandatory via radio or phone .. most people are slack , but if you make it law akin to wearing seatbelts .. everyone will just become accustomed to doing it .. seems like a no brainer to me .

love the way he gets slammed
love the way he gets slammed before people know what happened (again)
Maybe he did something stupid, maybe he didnt but he probably has enough on his plate at the moment.

I have often wondered whether
I have often wondered whether anyone has made a water proof compartment that has water tight lids on it top and bottom and attached to the transom or built through the hull. That way if the boat is floating upside down, you can still access the safety gear.

A lot of new round the world
A lot of new round the world racing yachts have a hatch on the transome, which when the boat is upside down, can still allow access into and out from the hull.
Also, to, most have life rafts in a position where they sit right on the back edge of the transome so once again, they can be dragged out of there was an upside down situation.

Poor old dog
Not fair for him. His owner should of known better. If in doubt, don't go out.

bit sus'
Putting all comments and info together, which have probably strayed a but from the truth, but I can't help being a little suspicious on what he was up to?
left at 9am to pull his pots ( one person so can only pull 2), pots were supposedly not far offshore. Gets swamped pulling pots at 3pm!?
6 hours to check only two pots?
maybe he just had a little trouble finding them huh??
