Gday all just wondering what anchor rope to use i am sick of replacing silver rope and making new anchors also places to buy it .Its only for a dinghy but we seem to be venturing further and further out on to the reefs and losing our gear.
Cheers Carry

sounds like you need to work
sounds like you need to work out what is the best anchor for your rig, and grounds you are fishing on, and you won't lose them as oftenHave you tried weak links on reef anchors. Something must be wrong with your set up

I'm with Craig, something
I'm with Craig, something doesn't sound quiet right. If your certain it's the rope then swap over to polypropylene ski rope, my old man has been using it as anchor rope for well over 20yrs & swears by the stuff.

Cooper
I use a COOPER light weight plow type anchor. You can conect the chain with a shackle low on the stem near the back of the anchor head and then cable tie the chain to the top of the shank.
If you get it stuck on reef you just pull up the slack until the rope is vertical, aplly a bit of presure to break the cable tie and then up it comes backwards. New cable tie and ready to anchor again.
Ive had it for about 3 years and anchored on lots of reef. Only broken the tie about 3 or 4 times.

rope
Its on a 4m tinnie and we keep busting the rope sometimes half way up or just below the bollard it seems to be dry and perrished its like it only lasts about 3 months then it shits itself no problem when new and the prongs on the anchor are made from 10mm mild steel round bar so might try some decent rope instead of that silver shite

Silver Rope
Is ok, but I see in your profile you are from Wickham, silver is UV Resistant but is the anchor line kept in the sun? Nylon is a far better alternative as it is just about impervious to UV. Silver is also roughly 50% the Breaking strength of Nylon for the Diameter, meaning you may be able to use a smaller diameter for the same holding power and thus you may be able to store a longer length for if you get caught out in nasty weather. Silver also has very little stretch where Nylon has excellent elasticity which will help in reducing the shock while at anchor. This may be how the line has snapped in the past, a bit of sun deteriation then out on the water on a choppy day a few shock loads and bang, there she goes.

Nylon or polyprop
Go for either nylon or polypropelene , it will out last the silver rope and may be cheaper.
When you get new rope other than silver rope, tie one end to a tree and use you car to stretch it , this will make it easier to handle and coil
