Amberjack off five fathom today

Headed out to the five fathom off mandurah with a mate of mine thats never been out fishing before, he caught a few wrasse followed by a western australian devilfish and a few trevally, i was wishing for something a bit larger when my prayers were answered..... my wilson venom live fibre rod loaded with a mullie ran off screaming, 10 minutes later after several strong runs emerged this wonderful amberjack, my best fish ever it weighed in at a little over 17 kilos. what a day to remember, needless to say my mate wants to go again very soon. just to confirm guys amberjack or sambo????

hey Bayliner,I have the 3-8

hey Bayliner,

I have the 3-8 spin venom. It uses the same blank so basicly the same action and rod. but run a 08 stella 10000 with a couple of different spools for different types of fishing. (16k aftermarket spool)
I fish north a fair bit. great for larger size tuna. the rod has a good action (lots of give) if fish jump but plenty of power. (lol have skull dragged some pretty big fish on pretty well full drag (20kg +)from deep when the sharks are out in force.) funny when every one else is chanting shark shark shark on the boat and your ripping something from 120m.
Can't go wrong with the Talica combo you have. Great reel.
