All the gear no idea!
Hi all, I eventually bought a boat. 5,4m Trailcraft. So now I have the boat I’m looking to build some confidence. Being my 1st boat other than a tinnie I find myself bricking it in most situations where I’m sure I would be fine.
I tend to stay the land side of the 3 mile right now, usually go from Ocean Reef. I have been out with a work college out of Fremantle in some bad swell, well to me it was bad he wasn’t fazed, it turned dark and we were still out getting battered in his 5m boat caught some good pink snapper then back in.
Well I’m looking for someone with a whole lot more experience than I have to go out fishing with, I don’t have any decent spots and I’m not looking for someone just for their fishing spots (but would help).
An old sea dog will do just fine, no young whipper snippers just looking for a free ride if you know what I mean.

I went from a tinnie to a bigger boat like yourself... Went to a 18ft seeker escapade glass boat from a 3m tinnie. Biggest thing I struggled with was the oversteer... A couple weeks of pulling dropnets while crabbing fixed that :) other thing I learnt very quickly is to have the trim up a little while going with the waves.... At the start I just took the boat out in close as yourself until I was used to the boat and you soon learn what you can and can't do.

Take ya Time
It will come together, if you have confidence in the motor, boat..fuel economy!, have all the safety gear, confident logging on/off then your set.
Pick the weather and start traveling that little bit deeper each time when you can. travelling in tandom or having an experience boaty will help but don't let it hold you back. If the weather is right have a crack!

Fletch What is that your unsure of? The best thing to do is keep doing what your doing- Using the boat- Competence equals confidence. If your not comfortable with the ocean take the boat out for a run on the swan.... mevile water can get choppy so you can see how you go. The other thing to consider is maybe doint the Rotto convoy and help you out
The old man used to have the 5.4 Trailcraft and they are a cable boat.
