Advice on combo for light jigging
Submitted by Aaron_Moses95 on Fri, 2014-03-21 12:37
Hey guys, Have not been on here for a while, I was thinking of getting into some jigging for small species like skippy and baby sambos and was after some advice on what gear to look for . Need a reel to fish about 8lb braid and possibly under $250. Rod I have no clue. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Aaron

Maybe one of those storm
Maybe one of those storm gomoku rods and a 2500 daiwa or equivalent in shimano, 2000???? I gave micro jiggin a go last time I was out and scored some slimies and whiting on anchor, bit hard on the drift cos jigs are so light. Keen to continue the trend tho. I just use my 10lb spin outfit (incase of a bigger fish hittin), those gomoku rods are pretty cheap tho

i use a shimano nexave 702 sp
i use a shimano nexave 702 sp 2-4kg with a 2000 size daiwa aird with 10lb fins for all my plastics and micro jigging. Been through 4 rods before this and for the money i can't fault it. It's sensitive enough to feel the smallest of fish but strong enough in the butt to get those bigger fish off the bottom. Pulled in size dhu, blackarse etc without much fuss so its pretty versitile. For the reel i would go one or two sizes up as the line capacity isn't great. I used a 4000 size shimano on it for a while with 30lb braid and although it handled it easily, it was just too heavy and made the whole combo feel unbalanced and uncomfortable.

i have a stradic ci4 2500
i have a stradic ci4 2500 and my nephew has a stradic 2500, the weight difference is noticeable. also have a stradic ci4 4000 and can cast it all day without tiring, and obviously the line capacity and drag is higher than the 2500. prob best to head to your local and have a feel and see what your comfortable with. Rod wise there are so many choices, again, head to your local.and try some out mate

gomoku
hi bud, can vouch for the gomoku range of rods, mind blowing rod angles and still great for baiting, great all rounder rod for sure. As for the reel, the stradic FJ 3000 would match up well, colour coordinating too with the white body, haha, goodluck, cheers

Had a feel of the eupro micro
Had a feel of the eupro micro jig rods today at the tackle shack in malaga, pe 0.6-1.5 30g jig weight, nice light bit of gear, still would handle a devent skippy or the odd pinkie. They also have the salty fighter pe 1-2, noticably stiffer

Cool thanks, ive just ordered my daiwa aird 2500, managed to get one for about $90. Will pop into tackle shack as it like 5mins away from me and have a look at those rods. Cheers tim-o and everyone else who offered their advise.
