Abrohlos - favorite anchorage spots
Submitted by Oracle on Sat, 2013-04-13 11:24
Hi all,
I'm lucky enough to be heading off to the islands tomorrow morning for a one nighter but I've only got my "usual" anchorage spot. i've seen some really nice shots of where people stop for the night and am going to look around a bit more this time.
We will be hanging around the bottom island as it's a short trip.
Anyone willing to let me know of a bueat overnight spot at all? In the stabi, so can get in pretty shallow and anchor over shallow or sand near beaches without concerns.
Cheers

Turtle bay, East Wallaby
30.1 miles from Port Gregory. 50 from Gero, best anchorage in Wallabies, sand bottom, great beach and very protected and if the southerly comes up a heading of 62 degrees home to Gregory makes for a resonably comfortable ride home

Especially interested in launching a bigger (7M) boat there. Retrieve likely to back in Gero

Theres only really one in the area your going, likely the one your gonna use!
If you go round the top and inside, Gun Island is nice for anything except easterly or further down to the other guano jetty on Pelsaert and along the beach (most directions except NW/W) there is pretty nice.
Easter Group, Wooded and Leos (very shallow, you'll bottom out on lower tide) are nice beaches.
This is Wooded Island at Easter-quite busy

Never launched a boat there
Never launched a boat there myself, but i crayfished out of there for 3 seasons and never saw anyone get stuck. Suppose it depends on how heavy your boat is. The owner of the caravan park has a tractor that he uses to pull people out if you have any dramas. The car park above the jetty is safe to leave cars, we used to leave ours there for weeks when we fished out of lucky bay and never had any problems. Most people i saw launch tended to go up the beach 20-50 metres from the jetty. The attached story has some good info.

last couple of years the beach has filled right in and I believe the jetty is about shorebound now, at least unusable by crayboats

bloody sand
Remote islands in the middle of no where, so far off shore and the sand still manages to move around and eat everything.

A lots changed
Far out when i was fishing there we all used to have our dinghys hanging off that diagonal section in the middle of the jetty and during big bank we even had a boat reversed in on the inside of the jetty to the right. Looks like it would be better to launch now, straight into deep water on the drop off.
