3 mile reef?
Submitted by Mad fisherboy on Wed, 2014-08-20 16:39
I posted a topic about kayaking not long ago and we will most likely be getting one.
I have heard about the 3 mile reef being a good spot and was wondering whether it is accessible from kayak. If so where would you launch?
Also if anyone could suggest other places for kayak fishing it would be much appreciated.
Thnx

The marina would be easy
The marina would be easy enough. 3 mile can be rough so I would say experience is needed. Try some of the reefs closer in but if your experienced head to 3 mile and check the weather so you can surf the afternoon breeze home

Also we are looking to catch
Also we are looking to catch bigger fish like snapper. Would you have to go out far for them?
Sorry for all the questions, just wanna be sure before we spend a couple thousand dollars.

you should become a member of the Yakfishwest forum
that way you can tag along with some more experienced yak fishos and learn the ropes. check out the safety section to find out what safety gear you must have with you.
Cockburn sound is a good spot for snapper if you are keen to target them and dhuis are also caught regulary at other locations.

Hey mate one of my fav spots (winter after storms) for snapper is straight out from hale road in scabrough round about 1 km out. Don't no how ud get the yak down there as I'm in my boat but will be a lot closer than the 3 mile. Recomed a sounder n charts though we just fish the reefs in there and have had some ripper days
