2nd graphite rod snapped.
bloody pi$$ed off.
snappped my deep jig 200 today , striking at a bite.(capturing the line on my other rod that was making its way to the bottom , bad day)
i'd got hooked up twice on botttom with this rod last week and was giving it plenty, no probs.
thats the second graphite rod thats blown , 1st was a daiwa redback plastics rod last autumn
don't have reciept for the 200 either. only bought it a month or 2 ago
makes me wonder if heading out on boat with rod rigged up , swivels tapping away on blank , is causing a mark that would be a weak point.
i love buying tackle , but this is ridiculous
anyone else going through graphite???
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

yes having gear rigged and
yes having gear rigged and knocking against the blank will do damage.
if its only 2 months old, go back to where you got it from, they should be able to sort it out for you, with some luck.

I snapped a couple bream
I snapped a couple bream sticks when i first got in to graphite but if you use it and care for it properly you shouldn't snap em,
In saying that sometimes its manufacturers fault or other things out of your control
Those swivels and other tackle knocking it may have certainly made hairline cracks which in turn made it go pow!

Ugly Stiks
When Ugly Stiks first came out they had an ad on tv showing them being bent in a full circle, they also had heaps of broken rods being returned.
The ads soon disappeared and so did the broken rod returns.Mate worked in the main tackle shop in Bunbury at the time, reckoned he had heard every excuse for breaking rods except bending it a circle.

Just the nature of graphite,
Just the nature of graphite, I've managed to snap a couple in my time, they really do need kid gloves but love their action. Hey Matt tried out the daiwa coastal on the weekend, biggggg skippy on second cast excellent rod.

graphite!
Graphite blanks having a jig or sinker tapping will increase blank fatigue but other than that they are strong in a fishing situation. Reef & boat will always win a fight with a graphite blank however!
Grayzee, as for rod warranty, if you have no joy bring it to Oceanside and we'll see what we can do!

yep broke 2 over the
yep broke 2 over the weekend... $600 of rods gone :(
1 from twisted braid around the tip and getting a snag.... my dumbass fault.
The other was from a 1.5m shark in the sound getting tangled with my anchor rope.

No one has mentioned high sticking
Try that with a graphite and your goneee. My change over to graphite cost me a couple because I was a bad high sticker, thinking the power comes from this. After this I realised that the power comes when the rod is not fully loaded up, so no more high sticking and rods last ages.

Graphite rods
Yep me too gone through quite a few in recent years first one was my fault, new to graphite and high sticked so fair enough but the others I'm not taking the blame for..
Its a pity because in the market for two new rods but I'm very hesitant about forking out for another couple, love the action and power but ????
Think I might just stick the good old composite/ glass rods ....
As for waranty good luck I've never had a rod replaced all my claims have been rejected { not the stores fault, had to be returned to the manufacturer for inspection}...
Cheers fishfish

one thing i have noticed
is when people go from using mono to braid is that they still lift the rod 6ft when striking and this is ok with the stretch of mono but with braid you only need to lift the rod tip about a foot to sink the hooks any more and your graphite rod dose the stretching and goes pop have seen a few people do this recently and snap there rod even with no fish on just the sinker . you do not need to strike hard when using braid

Paying for Rod
How did you pay for the rod - cash/eftpos or credit card. If eftpos or CC get a copy of the transaction to show date of purchase. Most tackle shop now scan their sales so should have record. I broke an Ozflex 6 months after purchase. Took back my Credit card statement showing purchase date and they were able to cross reference with their records and got it replaced at no cost
