1kw transducer putting off fish

been having this conversation with a few people about using a 1 kw transducer in water's less than 50 meters. (usually they have the 600 watt version)

do you think the 1kw will put fish off the bite or scare them???

put another way , is 1kw too powerful.

1st I've heard about it ... sounds like an excuse cooked up to avoid buying the 1kW unit =0

Remember the pros have 2 and even 3kw units. If you were really paranoid most head units allow you to turn the power down.

The 2kw and I reckon that's a load of ....!
We very rarely miss out. 1kw will find you the
good flat ground that 600w transducers won't.
Therefore increasing your chances IMO

What does it cost for a 2kw these days?> I guess if its not much more than the 600w then i suppose by the time you pay for the head unit ,root around installing the thing and getting it all set up right you wouldnt want to be changing the bloody things too often

We`ve got 2 transducers in

Tue, 2010-08-24 19:59

We`ve got 2 transducers in ours .A 2kw 200 and a 1kw 50  and turn the sounder off when on the anchor , , , sometimes . Caught probably the two best swags of fish on the weekend since moving to Exmouth and had the sounder on( 2kw 200 ) in 30 metres both times so not sure what  if any diffenence it makes. I do know though when your diving and the boat is above you it is pretty loud.

Having had big tranny`s now and knowing how much more info they give you I`d never go backwards . . Pick out the most powerful tranny and the biggest screen you can afford then get the next model up is what I reckon ;-)

unless microwaved fish start floating to the surface, then you may have an issue.

Yeah, doubt you're turning

Yeah, doubt you're turning the fish off. Charter boats run some high powered trannys.

I always turn my sounder off when anchored though.
