I gaffed it with a hand made flying gaff which attached to the 15foot solid alloy pole that we had for a gaff and then another fixed gaff which was a bit close to the skin along the top of the head which ripped out as we were lifting the big bugger out , that's a strip of flesh hanging off along the top , heart in the mouth stuff man , but we all saw much bigger fish and got seriously smoked on more than one occasion

One tough fish from the rocks, fished that spot quite a bit around the same era, some of the most spectacular coastal scenery and well worth the walk out there.

had some good times in that area , some really special spots that everyone is locked out of these days , talking to mates fishing over that way recently reckon the fishing is almost as good with plenty of kings , bonnies and smaller tuna , don't know about the Fin  though . We used to frequent the Gorge , Eves  and the Tubes heaps with Big Bea thrown into the mix , plus Crocodile Head for some stonking Big snapper , spins me when I think about the risks we used to take , all our ropes were from the Port Kembla rail yards , mates Dad was working there .....

Good times

The Tubes was our favourite in that area, another long walk but easy fishing, we caught plenty of yellowfin there but nothing like your mates, ours were more around the 10- 20kg mark. There were often bigger fish around but too good for us or our gear to handle. When the Navy were doing bombing practise we learnt to drive out at 5am and hide our cars at the top of the track well before they dropped the boom gates and the whole area was closed off - pretty nice having the Tubes just to yourself and a couple of mates and quite an experience fishing while bombs are exploding in the distance and jets are buzzing around, plenty of celebrations at the Currarong Bowling Club!
