Witchdoctor swimming action

I have two witch doctors, one a black pete, one a ritcher. When i set them, they always seem to swim right for 5 minues, then stop and sorta swim with the head pointing toward the boat. Then 5 minutes later, you will see it doing it zig zagging. (very fast, sending out huge flashes!) Curious to know is it just me, and are the doctors swimming right? or am i doing something wrong? I want to get the doctors doing the zig zagging 100% of the time....

Home made
Hi terboz, i have a home made teaser i made myself, ued a snapper lead as a front weight inserted into the body under the nose. It runs straight & sways from side to side & the mirrors on it shine as well as i could ask for. Perhaps the front connecor of yours may need a twist as you do with lures when they pull to one side. Maybe worth a go.
I hope you get it working properly as they are a bonus for paleagics etc...
cheers & be safe Rob

Mirror Teasers
Hi Brett, we use them and swimming action can vary with current/prop wash/boat spead etc but they get us results so dont worry too much mate.

You're onto it
The thinner the better. I found those boone sundancer teasers brilliant with the sails up north. I would leave them floating on the surface after a hook up and other other sails would often come in and check them out. Unfortunately the mirrored finish deteriorates quicker than I would have liked. You could even use mono or braid as a towline. 100 - 150lb range should suffice.

witch distance
How far back should the witch doctor hang? Way back with the spread or up closer to the boat?

Witchdoctor position
I think the best position for the witchdoctor is just in front of the shortest lure. If you run your lures long as your post suggests maybe you should consider running some in shorter. The aim of the witchdoctor is to draw fish to it so it would be good tactics to have a lure nearby.

the wake can affect the swim
the wake can affect the swim action if mounted on 1 side, also if u have a big ugly knot in the rope tied to teaser it can tilt the action and swim left or right same as a lure, thin braid rope with a streamline knot works best, braid rope works better than twisted 3 ply rope because it wont twist as u apply pressure to the rope while towing. i luv my pakula witchdoctor, still amazes me everytime at how well it works :)

They are recommended
to be run off the corners rather than central. Try each corner to see if one side is better than the other.

na sory,
run it off a corner but check that your wake isnt affecting it.i use 10ft, some say different. i just avoid the wake edge.
