Who's planning a fishing trip?

I have got two coming up soon.

Last two weeks of March, taking the wife and kids to Monkey Mia for two weeks.  This has been a regular family holiday for about 6 years now.  Stay at the caravan park at the resort.  In the past we have tented it, this year we are hiring an a/c van that will be set up upon our arrival.  moor the boat in front of the beach and spend days fishing around faure island and in the outer channels.  Beach and pool time with the kids, Monkey Bar at night.  Great family holiday and a bonus if we we get ourselves some pinkies, blue bone, or estruary cod.  A couple of years back I even got myself a rankin.  Going to try some serious soft plastics and elevator jig heads this year, and the misus will have her trusty handline (and probably out fish me!).

Then in May, its a boys only week at Steep Point.  At our camp, three in by car, three in by boat.  Two other camps with a boat each.  total three camps, three boats and about 23 blokes!  Lots of beach, rock and boat fishing, trolling for macks and tuna, bottom bouncing for trout, bladies and pinkies.  Probably copious amounts of beer consumed back at camp of an evening, and we'll do it all again the next day.  Ahhhh, heaven!

Who else has got a trip planned?

Envious,

Would love to get back to Steep Point - was there in '79 (i think) as a kid. We were doing it tough in SWB FJ40 style.

Nearly got there on the way to Exxy in 2003, but ran out of time.

I remember it as pristine & almost untouched - with the old man & uncle grabbing big feeds of monster crays at will.

Bet it's changed a bit now ?

Kimberley Trip

Tue, 2012-02-21 21:44

Doing a similar trip in April. A bit time restricted, in that only have 8 days, less two days on the road from Karratha to Derby and back.

Aiming to get around to Secure Bay and back in the six days on the water, covering about 800 kms. A bit more time behind the wheel than ideal, but still hoping to squeeze in a bit of popping, jigging, and plastics on the bluewater, and a couple of days in Secure after barra.

Just hanging on favourable weather.

Sounds great randall, went to monkey mia for the first time last year. Thought the idea of setting up camp meters from the boats moored on the beach was gold. Loved walking the beaches of faure island flicking lures around, so much activity at the island! turtles, sharks feeding, shovel noses everywhere, bird life, sea snakes, chopper tailor busting up the shallows would love to go back.

Scored a gig this year doing dive safaris island hopping between exmouth and onslow for 4 weeks. Have permits to camp on the islands mainly be at long and flat islands. Three pristine dives a day, swags on the beach, non stop fishing and best of all get paid to do it, can't wait!!

what part of faure island, can you land on (n, s, e, w)?  ie where's the beach?  never got that close.  it all looks very rocky from a distance. the chart shows there is a jetty on the sw corner.  the kids love seeing the sea life, more than monkey mia you reckon?

we were hanging around the north west corner pretty much shortest distance straight from monkey mia. it was about a km stretch of beach the approach was about a mile or so of sand in only a meter or less of water though so may pay to check tide.

 Goodluck with your trips

Tue, 2012-02-21 21:07

Goodluck with your trips mate, sounds awesome! Good to see the balance between family and mates :)

I'm heading up to Jurien in a couple weeks with a group of guys to fish with Whitey for 2 days over the weekend which should be great. This is our 3rd trip, booked out a nice 2 story pad there, plenty of room for the 7 of us and it's nice being able to come back and relax after a hard day pulling in fish and sink a few cold ones before sleeping in good bed and doing it again the next day!

Then down to Albany end of March for a week, few days will be at Peaceful bay with the family hopefully getting into plenty of fish landbased and from the kayaks. Gotta get into a few salmon as I missed out last year! Cant wait!

Crugs - I'm jealous.

One week in Streaky Bay in April followed by another week and a half in Smoky Bay SA.  Taking the boat and can't wait. is usually an annual event but staying a bit longer this year.  Missed out last year due to a honeymoon in Noosa so overdue as far as I'm concerned.  Taking a cray pot as well this time - yum been years since I've had a cray.

Will be my 12th trip out there, hopefully the weather plays ball and get out wide to a couple I spots I found a couple of years ago and the usual trolling around for Macks, tuna, wahoo and anything else that wants to play ball!

Coral Bay & Darwin

Fri, 2012-02-24 20:31

Team gates are heading to Coral Bay for the 1st week of April school holidays. Hitting the road on Good Friday with a stopover at Galena Brigde (just north of the Kalbarri turnoff)...should arrive in Coral Bay at lunchtime of 7th April, staying in a house in Marlin Crt. We were there in '09 and had a ball...this time we've got the bigger boat and we're all looking forward to fishing out wide.

Mrs gates and I are spending a week in Darwin in July with my sister and her family....the brother-in-law's a mad keen fisherman so I'm keen to get into some NT fishes...barra is definitely on the 'to catch' list.

Fingers crossed we all have great weather and great fishing on our trips this year.

regards
rusty...
