Which fish to target this time of year
Submitted by the_lane on Tue, 2020-11-17 10:55
Planning to head out from Woodman Point ramp this weekend for a morning fish. I'm a noob so don't tend to venture beyond the islands unless its flat.
So what are the best species to target in the sound this time of year? I seem to do pretty well with squid, but anytime I drop a baited whiting rig down I get overrun with trumpeter.

Went out today and targeted
Went out today and targeted sand whiting using squid bait. Catching sandies and then pulling 1 up hand a hammer head decided it wanted it. Next drift catching sandies and hit a school of small pinkies with sandies among them. Next drift catching sandies and low and behold I hook a small dhuie about 40cm on small squid bait, 10 meters of water. Next drift sandies then a nice KG 42cm. Next drift catching sandies and a squid decides it wants me catch so quickly drop over a jig.
So some lovely sandies, nice KG and a squid to boot, dinner on the table.
So target sandies and hope for the best.
